Casebook: Appeal cases - Waste management. Recycling charity wins personal permission

The use of an industrial building in Hertfordshire by a charity recycling and selling household appliances and furniture has won approval subject to a time-limited personal permission.

The business provided work and accommodation for homeless people, the inspector noted. He found that retail sales from the premises were relatively low and that recycling used goods created employment for local people.

He decided that provided the operation was only carried out by the charity and limited to a period of five years, it would be acceptable.

DCS No: 100039223; Inspector: Dannie Onn; Written representations.
