Design group backs revised Woolwich plan

Latest designs for the Royal Arsenal regeneration in Woolwich have been backed by the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE).

The revised plans for 2,500 homes at the south London site have greater clarity of thought behind the urban design, according to CABE.

The watchdog said that the masterplan by architects Allies and Morrison is a major improvement on a previous scheme by Broadway Malyan, which envisaged 3,000 homes and 30,000m2 of commercial space.

Its comments are a formal response to the revised hybrid application for the Arsenal and Warren Lane sites and the detailed application for the Royal Carriage Factory. The scheme forms part of the Docklands Light Railway extension.
