Casebook: Appeal Cases - Housing: New build - Lighthouse landmark wins approval on island

A proposal for a three-storey home with a circular tower on the Isle of Wight has won support from an inspector who decided that it would provide a landmark feature.

He noted the council's concerns over the introduction of an unsympathetic design but observed that the scheme had been recommended for approval by officers. He took the view that the art deco design was not inappropriate to the area, having regard to the design of other buildings in the locality.

The central tower's lighthouse appearance would be in keeping with the island's strong nautical connections, he judged.

DCS No: 100039232; Inspector: Eddie Grace; Written representations.
