Planning day fights off competition

This week saw the 56th celebration of World Town Planning Day, a global series of happenings that aim to promote awareness and support for community planning.

The event is celebrated in 30 countries on four continents. This Tuesday gave planning enthusiasts a peg to highlight the contribution that planners make to human settlements and their environment.

"World Town Planning Day is one day each year when the planning movement calls attention to the role of planning in making great communities throughout the world," says American Planning Association executive director Paul Farmer.

But the event is not without competition. This year it coincided with Shout About Climate Change Week, National Meals on Wheels Week and Scleroderma Awareness Week.
