Cross-government steering group set up

A cross-government steering group has been set up to review the proposed Stonehenge tunnel.

The group includes staff from the Department for Transport (DfT), the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, DEFRA, the Highways Agency, the Government Office for the South West, English Heritage and Natural England. The DfT announced a review of proposals to cut congestion on the A303 in July after it emerged that the estimated cost of the tunnel has escalated from £284 million at the time of the public inquiry to £470 million.
