Swansea plan outlines boost for waterfront

Proposals to boost Swansea by harnessing its waterfront and city core have been published by local planners.

Swansea City and County Council has published its deposit unitary development plan (UDP), which outlines the authority's vision for the city to 2016.

The objective is to develop "a modern, attractive and vibrant waterfront area integrated with a revitalised city centre", the plan says. The ongoing SA1 waterside development and a revamped River Tawe corridor will be key components of this, it explains.

Up to 13,930 homes should be provided, the plan proposes. Swansea will prepare its UDP before changing to the local development plan system being introduced in Wales.
