Work on key section of Manchester, Bolton and Bury Canal

Work on a key section of the Manchester, Bolton and Bury Canal began last week as part of the wider rejuvenation of Salford. The £4.2 million restoration of a 500m stretch of canal at Middlewood will reconnect the waterway with the River Irwell through the £600 million Middlewood Locks mixed-use development. The 24km canal is one of the last major waterways in Greater Manchester in line for restoration. The project will make it navigable by the end of 2006.
