Survey shows actions taken on cargo duty

Most local authorities are fulfilling the requirement to deal with freight in their local transport plans (LTPs), a survey revealed this week.

The Freight Best Practice programme surveyed local authorities on action being taking on freight issues in LTPs. It found that 77 per cent are taking simple but effective measures to improve efficiency and minimise the impact on communities.

The most common actions include improving signage, strategic routeing and setting up freight quality partnerships.

A spokeswoman for the programme, which is funded by the Department for Transport and managed by Faber Maunsell, said a best practice tool kit will target local authorities that have failed to developed freight plans.
