Heritage Lottery grant secured for Wakefield

A £4.9 million Heritage Lottery grant has been secured to kick-start the construction of a state-of-the-art gallery in Wakefield. Proposed for Wakefield's waterfront conservation area, the Hepworth Gallery will house the city's collection of 20th century British art and tell the story of Wakefield's artistic and historic heritage over the past 250 years. A collection of 30 original plasters used by Wakefield-born Dame Barbara Hepworth when casting her bronze sculptures will form the centrepiece of the gallery.
