Casebook: Appeal case - Housing: new build - Greenfield village housing rejected as harmful

A housing development on the edge of an Oxfordshire village has been judged unacceptable by an inspector who decided that there was no need to sanction the release of a greenfield site. She noted that the 1ha site was clearly visible from public vantage points and adjoined existing residential development on only one boundary. Its position on steeply rising land on the edge of the village would harm an area of high landscape value, she held.
