Warning from Peak District planners

Peak District planners have warned that a seven-month delay in a public inquiry into quarrying at a sensitive site in the national park will result in "irreversible damage". An appeal by landowner Bleaklow Industries and quarrying company MMC Ltd against an enforcement notice served on their site at Backdale on Longdale Edge was due to be heard last week. But the planning inspector agreed with Bleaklow that the three days set aside for the inquiry were insufficient to determine the appeal. It has been rescheduled for April 2006.
