Green belt milestone sparks timely review

Fifty years ago this week, Circular 42/55 ushered in what has become the public's favourite planning tool, the green belt. The enduring enthusiasm for the concept is highlighted in a Campaign to Protect Rural England survey revealing that 84 per cent of respondents think that green belt land should remain undeveloped.
