Coventry conservation area awarded Heritage Lottery Fund grant

The renewal of Coventry's Far Gosford Street conservation area has been awarded a £1.7 million Heritage Lottery Fund grant. The award, made under the townscape heritage initiative, adds to funds of nearly £4 million raised by the city council. Local consultation is under way to decide what needs to be done to restore the shopping area. Proposals include repairing the most historic and rundown properties, a bus lane on Sky Blue Way and improving shopfronts and disabled access. A public space, closed-circuit television coverage and better lighting have also been suggested.
