Total number of second homes in England

The total number of second homes in England stands at just under 300,000, according to latest research. The statistics, compiled by consultancy Savills, finds that while the South West accounts for just under a quarter of all second homes, London has the second largest proportion at 19.3 per cent. The researchers say that the market is made up of properties bought for weekend or longer breaks and pieds-a-terre used by commuters or those looking for a city base.
