It has been said that if the rest of the world had the standard of living and lifestyle currently enjoyed by the UK, it would require the resources of three planet Earths to sustain it. Already the continued growth of the Chinese economy is impacting on the world's oil and steel supplies. It should therefore be pretty obvious, and not just to environmentalists, that there must be a limit to economic growth, and that for the most advanced nations that limit must be almost reached.
