Property consortia submit bids

Eight property consortia have submitted bids to redevelop the Elephant and Castle area in south London. Stage one of the competition (Planning, 22 April, p5) saw developers including New York billionaire landlord Richard Lefrak and Australian firms Multiplex and Lendlease pitch for the £1.5 billion renewal project. The London Borough of Southwark's Elephant and Castle development team will consider which organisations have the experience and technical capacity to deliver the scheme. A shortlist of two or three developers will be chosen this autumn and their proposals will be put out for consultation.
