Student residence plans approved

Plans to build a £33 million student residence on the Royal Albert Dock were approved by the London Borough of Newham last week. The complex, designed by Fraser Brown Mackenna Architects for the University of East London, will accommodate the institution's rising student numbers. The scheme consists of a cafe, shop, 132 flats and 139 studios in five-storey blocks. The council's planning committee praised the use of colour in the design.
