Pre-election answer proves to be elusive

There have been times over the past four years when the government's most articulate opposition has come not from rival parties but from the Labour-dominated ODPM select committee. With a general election on the horizon and with it a shake-up of the committee's membership, the MPs' parting shot on housing market renewal is quite pertinent. The problems are well known, but offering solutions is enough to make the head spin.
