Sunderland Asda centre could create jobs

More than 700 jobs could be created in Sunderland under plans by retailer Asda to build a £40 million distribution centre in the city. The move adds to the creation of 200 jobs announced by car manufacturer Nissan at its Washington Sunderland plant this month. Asda's proposals aim to complement two depots based in Washington. A planning application for the latest depot, which would cover around 35,300m2, has been submitted to the city council.
