Norfolk Broads landowner fined

A Norfolk Broads landowner was fined £10,000 at Norwich Crown Court last week for causing ecological damage to a wetland site through a land-raising operation at Wayford Mill, Smallburgh.

The Broads Authority has been negotiating for more than two years with Mark Rogers to remove 3,000 tonnes of soil which it claims spoils a view of fields and an historic windmill. Some soil has been removed but the authority estimates that around 2,000 tonnes is still in place.
