Darlington plans for pedestrianisation

Plans to pedestrianise Darlington town centre have been boosted by a £3.25 million investment from regional development agency One North East.

Pedestrianisation work will begin early next year and is expected to be completed in 2008.

The initiative helps pave the way for a £50 million shopping centre that is expected to create 1,100 new jobs. The One North East funding is part of a £6.5 million pot created by the agency, Darlington Borough Council, the Department for Transport and local retailers.
