Consultation on government funding for housing launched

A consultation on government funding for housing during 2006-07 and 2007-08 was launched this week. The ODPM is seeking views on the regional split of the £5.5 billion, which includes an extra £500 million provided for social rented housing. The East of England will see an increase of around 50 per cent to reflect the planned increase in homes in growth areas. An increase of around 40 per cent is proposed for the South West to reflect the region's affordability problems. The northern region and the West Midlands will benefit from extra funding for housing renewal provided through the separate housing market renewal pathfinders. The consultation period ends on 4 February. Housing Investment in the Regions can be viewed via
