Retail scheme provides hope in Manchester

A major retail scheme in north Manchester opened for business last week, giving a major employment boost to the area.

The 29,728m2 Manchester Fort Shopping Park, located on a brownfield site at Cheetham Hill, is now home to B&Q, Comet, Boots, The Link and TK Maxx, with more shops planned to open before Christmas.

Funded by Pillar Property and Manchester City Council, the centre will create around 500 jobs, with another 500 in the pipeline for next year.

Pillar Property director Mark Stirling said that the scheme will bring long-term benefits to the local community.

Manchester City Council leader Richard Leese labelled the development a "significant landmark" in the regeneration of north Manchester. He added: "It is a clear sign of investor confidence and will help to improve the quality of life of people in the area."
