Bus shelters aim to ease retail strain

A unique winter warmer has been introduced just in time to help make the Christmas shopping ordeal easier. Heated bus shelters are being built at the nation's key shopping destinations.

The brainchild of utility company British Gas, the shelters will act as a home from home for chilled waiting passengers. Believed to be the first of their kind in the UK, ten will be located in London and another ten will be introduced in Manchester, Nottingham and Glasgow.

The shelters have been designed to imitate the humble front room. Fitted with a fireplace with moving flames, they will be in place for four weeks over the festive period. Heaters will keep shoppers warm while Christmas carols will play through a sound system to lift their spirits.
