Views sought on execution of reformation

A consultation on how changes to the development control system are to be implemented was launched by the ODPM this week.

The paper is the first of two consultations on development control reforms outlined in the latest planning act. It seeks views on the power of local authorities to decline to determine repeat applications and the length of planning permissions.

The paper also covers statutory consultees' duty to respond to applications within 21 days, regional planning bodies' role as statutory consultees and economic impact reports for major infrastructure schemes.

The 12-week consultation will close on 22 February. The second round will begin early next year to explore issues such as local development orders, mezzanines and outline permission.
