Kirklees Council criticised

Kirklees Metropolitan Council has been criticised for it's handling of a planning application that impacted on a resident's private road. Local government ombudsman Pat Thomas found the local authority guilty of maladministration causing injustice after it granted consent for a housing development without imposing restrictions on the use of the private road for construction and other vehicles. She recommended that the council pay the complainant £500 and adopt and maintain the road. She also called for the planning department to review its complaints procedures. The authority said that it will consider the findings in the new year and is seeking to resolve the problems.
