A planning advice note (PAN) unveiled this week outlines how authorities can better deliver online services for communities and businesses.
Deputy communities minister Johann Lamont said: "We want to strengthen the involvement of communities and speed up decision-making. E-planning will increase openness and effectiveness and allow greater choice in the use of planning services."
The advice covers website development offering access to information, including online representations and application progress. The paper-based system will operate as long as there is demand, the executive added.
