Standards set for Best Value consultations

Consultation on proposed Best Value standards for faltering planning departments next year has been launched by the ODPM.

It suggests that 77 authorities that determined less than 40 per cent of major applications in 13 weeks last year should decide 57 per cent of such schemes in the same time in 2005-06.

Councils that determined less than half of minor applications within eight weeks in the year ending June should determine 63 per cent of minor commercial and industrial applications within eight weeks during 2005-06, it adds.

The 26 councils that failed to determine at least 65 per cent of other applications in eight weeks are expected to process 75 per cent of such applications on time.
