The Best Value inspection report, published this week, says that the council has clearly-expressed ambitions for the local area, recognises the role of its planning service and has developed plans to support service improvement.
The inspectors found that the authority has an updated local plan featuring an objective to develop sustainable communities while protecting and enhancing the environment. It also makes good-quality, robust planning decisions, they added.
Access to information is easy through the council's planning contact centre, which answers 80 per cent of calls at the first point of contact, and via its "well-developed" website, the report notes. "The council has experienced, qualified staff who offer good-quality reliable planning advice," it concludes.
