Housing partner sought for Elephant and Castle's regeneration

A housing partner for Elephant and Castle's £1.5 billion regeneration is being sought by the London Borough of Southwark. The chosen housing association or consortium will build and manage around 1,000 replacement homes for residents of the Heygate Estate. The homes will be built on 15 council-owned sites with an average of 70 per cent social rented housing. The local authority insists that there should be no difference in the design of private housing and homes for rent. A final selection of partners is expected by summer 2005.
