Casebook: Appeal cases - Commercial and industrial - Office building ruled out in conservation area

The demolition of buildings in a Hertfordshire conservation area to make way for a four-storey office building has been rejected on the basis that it would result in an unduly prominent development that would undermine the character of the street scene. In arriving at this conclusion, the inspector placed less weight on the possible benefits associated with the scheme, including the creation of employment opportunities.
