Regeneration News brief: Plan to transform east London launched

A plan to transform east London into a major tourist destination was launched this week. The scheme aims to make the most of the East End's diverse attractions, communities, history and fledgling businesses. The plan, a joint venture between the London Development Agency, TourEast London and Visit London, covers an area comprising the City of London, Tower Hamlets, Lewisham, Greenwich, Bexley, Hackney, Newham, Barking and Dagenham, Havering and Redbridge. Further research will be conducted into what visitors think of east London and how to increase visitor numbers. It will also explore ways of making the most of the Olympic Games if the capital succeeds in its bid to host the 2012 event.
