In brief: Victoria and Albert Museum plans abandoned

Trustees of the Victoria and Albert Museum in London have pulled the plug on their ambitious plans to build a £70 million gallery. The Spiral Project, designed by Daniel Libeskind, was intended to provide exhibition space for the museum's contemporary design collection. The trustees voted to abandon the project after the Heritage Lottery Fund turned down their request for £15 million in funding.
