Regeneration News brief: Gateshead music venue to open on 17 December

A £70 million music venue on Gateshead's quayside will be opened to the public on 17 December. The Sage Gateshead, designed by Foster and Partners, includes a 25-room music education centre, a recording studio, two performance spaces, an entertainment suite, bars, a cafe and a brasserie linked by a glazed concourse. The Gateshead Metropolitan Borough Council project, part of regeneration of the riverside area, has been supported by Arts Council England, with funding from the National Lottery and One North East. Councillor Mick Henry said that the completion of the building is a major milestone in the area's regeneration that will put Gateshead on a "world stage".
