Rail and other public transport users should be represented by a watchdog with powers to order rather than recommend improvements, Transport 2000 argued this week. The lobbying group maintained that the Rail Passengers Committee should be replaced by an organisation with a remit to cover all public transport. The replacement should also be able to take on complaints and requests for compensation and have the authority to demand changes, Transport 2000 insisted.
