Regeneration News: The DTI releases money to ten mines

The DTI has released £36.4 million to ten mines under its coal investment aid scheme. A dozen mines were offered £52.5 million last year and ten have accepted the funding, which will be rolled out in instalments as investment projects proceed. It is hoped that the cash will safeguard more than 3,500 jobs and create a further 100. The remaining £16.1 million of the fund remains on offer to mines at Hatfield and Ellington, with a further offer of £2.2 million made to the Tower Colliery in south Wales.
