In brief: Proposals for cultural attraction in London revived

Proposals for a major cultural attraction across the Thames from the Tower of London have been revived. The London Borough of Southwark's planning committee last week approved a brief inviting ideas for a gallery, museum, theatre or themed attraction on the 1.5ha Potter's Field site, which is currently allocated for housing in the unitary development plan. Ten years ago the Royal Opera House secured planning permission for an auditorium on the site following a public inquiry, but the scheme was never implemented.
