IN BRIEF: Plans to create independent statutory body

Plans are afoot to create an independent statutory body to manage the Cotswolds area of outstanding natural beauty (AONB). The Cotswolds AONB Partnership is consulting its 17 council members on the possibility of setting up the country's first independent conservation board and has received six favourable responses so far. Director Martin Lane said that a conservation board would help put the Cotswolds on a par with the national parks.
