The council won £150,000 of stage one funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund to draw up the restoration plans. Experts were commissioned to carry out extensive investigations that have revealed the building's historic significance. Now the council wants to see the premises opened to the public for events and exhibitions as well as council training sessions and an education centre.
The exhibition shows plans for the site, explains the project's funding and displays archaeological discoveries. Restoration work is expected to last two years, with the house due to open in 2006.
- Shaw House: The Restoration runs until 3 January 2004. For further details, visit www.shawhouse.org.uk or contact West Berkshire Museum (tel) 01635 30511.
