REGENERATION NEWS: The first phase of a strategy ...

The first phase of a strategy to establish Preston as the North West's third city has been completed. The £500,000 programme will help to improve the streetscape and strengthen links between the University of Central Lancashire campus and the southern end of Friargate, one of Preston's main shopping areas. Lighting, landscaping and street furniture have been provided in an effort to create a distinct local identity. The project is the first of a series of city centre masterplan schemes to be completed. The masterplan, launched in April, proposes the establishment of a number of city quarters.
