A community regeneration project in Falmouth has won the first deputy prime minister's award for sustainable communities. The Beacon Regeneration Community Partnership transformed a rundown estate in the area with £1.2 million from the Capital Challenge Fund and £1 million from Carrick District Council. The project included energy conservation measures, traffic calming and a youth club. Meanwhile, Gunwharf Quays, a mixed-use brownfield project in Portsmouth, was named winner of English Partnerships' award for partnership in regeneration this week.
