NEWS IN BRIEF: Quay 2005 future decision end of year

A decision on the future of Quay 2005 - Associated British Ports' (ABP) application for a 24-hour freight terminal in Hull - is expected by the end of the year. A public inquiry into the scheme, which was sparked by objections from residents on the neighbouring Victoria Docks housing estate, ended last week. The residents raised concerns about noise and light pollution, traffic impacts and environmental damage to the Humber Estuary. Inquiry inspector Peter Beasley will deliver his report to deputy prime minister John Prescott in October.
