SCOTTISH NEWS: Brooks quits as capital's project chief

One of the key figures behind the redevelopment of Edinburgh's old Royal Infirmary has left the project team.

Andrew Brooks has resigned as development director of Southside Capital, the consortium behind the so-called Quartermile scheme comprising hundreds of homes, shops, restaurants, leisure facilities and offices. Brooks is recognised as having played an important role in securing planning permission from Edinburgh City Council.

He leaves with Scottish ministers still to rule on the plans and a formal objection from Historic Scotland, which is concerned at the impact on views from Edinburgh Castle and the Meadows. He insisted that his departure was amicable and said he is seeking development opportunities in London and Australia.
