Peel Holdings has submitted plans to turn the site of a Manchester Ship Canal workshop in Runcorn into a mixed-use waterfront development. The Manchester-based developer, which owns the canal, has submitted an outline application for a 500m stretch of the waterway neighbouring the town centre. The £40 million Old Quay scheme, which includes 470 flats, restaurants, bars and shops, has been designed by architects Broadway Malyan. The canal maintenance facilities are being transferred to a purpose-built workshop at Runcorn Docks.
