Letter: In defence of town and parish councils

“Read the standing orders, read them and understand them!” It is not very often that I am surprised by text messages from my friends, most of whom do not take much interest in the inner workings of local government. But when one sent me this quote, and the link to the now-infamous video of an angry parish council member berating the council’s clerk, I knew that things had gone viral.
