According to a statement from the club, it will submit a planning application for the scheme on December 23.

The proposal would see the stadium built at Bramley-Moore Dock as part of developer Peel L&P’s Liverpool Waters scheme.

According to consultation documents, the scheme would include "extensive public spaces for use on both matchdays and non-matchdays, the creation of a waterway to connect the docks and a new multi-storey car park next to the river, with a footbridge linking it to the stadium".

The stadium plans will be followed by a separate outline planning application for the redevelopment of its existing Goodison Park stadium, with the intention for both applications to be determined by Liverpool City Council at the same time, the statement said.

The club has said the redevelopment plans for Goodison Park could include new homes plus health, leisure and education facilities and community meeting rooms.

In AugustLiverpool Football Club announced that it would allow a five-year-old planning permission to increase the capacity of one of its Anfield stadium stands to lapse because it wanted to submit plans for an even bigger expansion.

Earlier this monthNottingham Forest Football Club submitted a hybrid planning application to replace one of its four stands and build 250 new market homes on an unallocated site.
