The East Sussex council is consulting on a CIL preliminary draft charging schedule until 10 December 2017.
The document includes a city-wide charge of £250 per square metre for purpose-built student housing, as well as city-wide charges of £100 per square metre of large format retail, and £50 per square metre for other shopping development.
The authority’s preliminary draft charging schedule also proposes three charging zones for residential development, applying to C3 and C2 use classes. Residential development in a high value zone which includes Brighton’s seafront and city centre would face the highest charges, of £175 per square metre.
A charge of £150 per square metre would apply to residential development in a mid-value zone, while a rate of £75 per square metre would be applicable in a lower-value zone.
