Transport secretary approves M4 widening plan

Plans to upgrade 32 miles of the M4 motorway between west London and Theale, Berkshire, to a 'smart motorway', with the hard shoulder converted into permanent fourth lane, have been given the go-ahead by the transport secretary, who concluded that the proposals would increase capacity, improve traffic flow and reduce journey times.
