The Chief Planner in Scotland has sent the Direction to all Scottish Heads of Planning setting out new arrangements for notifying planning applications to the Scottish Ministers. The Direction comes into force on 8 October 2015 and is intended to ensure that the Scottish Government’s position on underground coal gasification is reflected through the planning decision making process.
Authorities are also restricted from granting planning permission without first notifying the application to Scottish Ministers. This requirement applies to both new planning applications and to any that are currently being considered.
