Camping and caravanning site compatible with rural landscape and village setting

The change of use of two fields in Suffolk to be used by up to 30 tent pitches, motorhomes and touring caravans was allowed, the impact on residents and landscape character being judged acceptable by an inspector.

The two fields could comfortably accommodate 60 pitches, the inspector observed, so the appellant’s scheme would not give rise to a cramped layout. A toilet and shower block would replace an existing stables and the site was substantially screened by existing hedgerows. The proposal would be of an appropriate scale to the village and rural area and would promote a sustainable form of tourism which would not unduly impact on existing residents.
